Hi everyone, welcome back!

Today I'm going to be talking about my recent purchase that I made on the Coastal Scents website. If you haven't heard of them: Coastal Scents is a US brand that makes cheap eyeshadows, including hundreds of "hot pots" (individual eyeshadow pots). I've always wondered about the quality of Coastal Scents shadows, because I know how cheap they are (about $2 USD each!) but I haven't heard many people talk about them. So I wanted to try them for myself, and these are my thoughts.

I grabbed a 12-pot empty palette and 12 matte shades to fill it, and also a pre-made palette called Jardin Bloom, which was full of purples, greens and olives. I've been craving a nice olive eyeshadow for a while (I usually just stick to ColourPop Super Shock Shadows in Hammered and High Rise, but I've been wanting a powder).

(The palette with shades I picked out myself, including (from left to right): Row 1: Violetville, Antique Lilac, Fancy Pansy, Pale Nude, Row 2: Wild Raisin, Maroon Berry, Fine Wine, Cinnabar Rose, Row 3: Chocolatier, Olivewood, Pinehurst, Wishy Washy)

(The Jardin Bloom palette)

I swatched these colours briefly and I was thoroughly impressed, so I set out to use them ASAP. However, I had to play around with them a few times before taking any photos, because anytime I tried to use them I could never get the pigmentation that I wanted, so all the colours blurred together (particularly with the shimmer shades; the mattes were a little easier to work with). So every time I went in to use them, I ended up putting ColourPop Super Shock Shadows over the top to get the colours I was after.

The pics below were the first success I had with using them, since the matte pink shades that I bought for my custom palette were being cooperative, and I wanted a look to match my newly-dyed pink hair.

If you're interested, I used my go-to smokey eye technique for the above look - you can read my tutorial here.

So far, based on my first (and second and third) impressions, the shadows come in really nice colours, but there's really a 50/50 chance whether the shadow will actually product the pigmentation that it boasts about upon first view.

The verdict: these are perfect if you're looking at purchasing inexpensive eyeshadows; i.e. for those with smaller budgets or for those just starting out with make up. If you're expecting them to produce amazing-quality pigmentation, they won't do that. But the colour range really is amazing, and the shimmer shades are very silvery if you're looking for something lighter. That being said, the affordability of them all definitely makes it worth it. So while the quality might not be that of Tarte or Too Faced, your wallet will love the price and you will get some pretty shadows out of it.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Have a great week, everyone!

God bless,
